C. W. Gilbert Moves to Florida

The Gilbert family moved to Florida in 1894, during the first fifty years of Florida’s statehood. C. W. “Charlie” Gilbert, the namesake of the present-day Charlie Gilbert, was the founding partner of Gilbert & Hadsock (circa 1918). Their company was responsible for building roads in Florida to accommodate the rise of the automobile. In addition to road construction, C. W. Gilbert raised crops and cattle on over 500 acres in North Central Florida and served as chairman of the Levy County Commission.

His son, C. W. “Carroll” Gilbert, was only 16 years old when his father suddenly passed away in 1933. Carroll took over the management of the family farm, eventually becoming a successful businessman and cattleman in his own right. He was active in his community and followed in his father’s footsteps serving as chairman of the Levy County Commission.

Carroll’s son, C. W. “Charles” Gilbert, learned from his father’s passion for business and service to the community. He started his own home construction company in the 1960s and built over 120 homes across North Central Florida. Charles, like his father and grandfather, was also a Florida cattleman.

His son, C. W. “Chuck” Gilbert, worked with his father as a young man, laying out and constructing homes. He has many years of experience as a commercial construction superintendent. He later founded his own construction company. An avid learner, Chuck branched out into specialty concrete and masonry work, which includes custom concrete floor staining, field stone, and insulated concrete forms (ICF).

The founder of C. W. Gilbert Construction Co., C. W. “Charlie” Gilbert, learned from both his father and grandfather as a young man. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he moved to Southwest Florida in 2004. There, he worked for many years as a project manager under some of Florida’s best constructors. He managed projects across the state, gaining more experience in the construction fields of large custom homes, commercial buildings, and federal projects. In 2018, Charlie launched C. W. Gilbert Construction Co., continuing his family’s legacy of Florida construction.
